
Steven Ang
Voice
Steven has been a singing instructor at Madison Academy of Music since 2014. He inculcates a holistic approach in his students that encompasses a solid foundation in vocal technique, discipline in musicianship and an authentic stage presence. Steven’s students regularly score well in vocal performance exams, won competitions and are regularly featured in professional theatre productions in Singapore including those by Wild Rice, Childaid and Singapore Lyric Opera. The basis of Steven’s methodology is rooted in traditional Italian operatic bel-canto technique, which he adapts for contemporary styles of music. His operatic repertoire includes Leporello in Don Giovanni in Abruzzo, Italy, Il Re in Aida (Singapore Lyric Opera), Benoit, Alcindoro and Marcello (act 3) in La Bohème, Yakuside in Madama Butterfly (Opera Siam), Dr. Javalinot in Dialogue des Carmelites (New Opera Singapore) and Njegus in Die Lustige Witwe (Singapore Lyric Opera). Steven’s concert repertoire includes Ich Habe Genug by J.S. Bach and Songs of Travel by Vaughan Williams. He has performed as a soloist in various countries including Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, UK, Italy, Germany, Taiwan, Malaysia, China and Singapore. In addition to performing as an operatic soloist, Steven performs regularly as a theatre actor as well. His theatre credits include Gonzalo in Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Soul Searching by PopUp Noise, Sago Lane by dance company P7:1SMA, Snow White by the Stageclub and Foreign Bodies at the M1 Fringe Festival.
Steven’s training includes a Bachelor’s Degree from Taiwan’s Soochow University Music Department and a DipLCM in Music Education. He has also studied at the London Bel Canto Festival in 2017 and 2018 (on partial scholarship) with Bruce Ford, Nelly Miricioiu and Aprile Millo among its faculty members. His foundational years were spent with the Echo Philharmonic Society where he was a chorister, bass section leader and soloist.
